Here are some of the tools that our researchers are using or developing for EARNEST's work:
Capacity Expansion & Operation Models
| PyPSA-USA | PyPSA-USA is an open-source energy system dataset and modeling tool designed for expansion planning and operational simulations across the United States. PyPSA-USA provides a versatile toolkit that allows you to customize both the data and policy constraints of your energy system planning model with ease. Through a straightforward configuration file, you can control the spatial, temporal, and operational resolution of your model, using access to cleaned and prepared historical and forecasted data.PyPSA-USA is an open-source energy system dataset and modeling tool designed for expansion planning and operational simulations across the United States. | GenX | GenX is a highly-configurable open-source electricity resource capacity expansion model that incorporates several state-of-the-art practices in electricity system planning to offer improved decision support for a changing electricity landscape. GenX is a constrained linear or mixed integer linear optimization model that determines the portfolio of electricity generation, storage, transmission, and demand-side resource investments and operational decisions to meet electricity demand in one or more future planning years at lowest cost, while subject to a variety of power system operational constraints, resource availability limits, and other imposed environmental, market design, and policy constraints. |
